Bill started it. Mike builds it.
William J. Ross Construction Ltd. has been building in Simcoe and Norfolk County since 1964. The second generation runs it today — and still swings a hammer.
The beginning.
Bill Ross started the company in 1964, building houses for families in and around Simcoe, Ontario.
Norfolk County was growing, and a builder's reputation travelled by word of mouth down a concession road faster than any advertisement could. Bill built accordingly: the structure right where nobody would ever see it, the finish right where everybody would.
He registered with Tarion in 1976 and never lapsed. That approach set the company's three working principles — honesty, integrity and excellence — and they have not been rewritten since.

The second generation is still on the site, not just on the letterhead.
The second generation.
Mike Ross leads the company now — Bill's son, a certified architectural designer under Ontario regulations, and a builder who came up through the trade rather than into it.
That combination is unusual and it is the reason clients come to us. Mike draws the house in CAD, prices it, and then builds it. There is no handoff between a designer who has never framed a wall and a contractor seeing the drawings for the first time.
The scale is deliberate. We take on a limited number of homes and renovations each year so that the person whose name is on the company is the person who walks your site. Our crews and trades have worked with us for years; some of our suppliers have dealt with this company for decades.
It means we are not the fastest builder in the county, and we are rarely the cheapest quote on the table. It also means that when something needs to be made right, there is no question about who is responsible for it.
Three principles, unedited since 1964.
A real number at the start, and a call the day something changes — not a line item discovered at the end.
What is behind the drywall is built the same way as what is in front of it.
Custom craftsmanship, on a scale small enough that we can still stand behind every house.

If you are just outside that radius, call anyway — we would rather tell you honestly whether we can service the site properly than take a job we cannot look after.

Tell us what you have in mind.
Most of our work begins with a phone call and a walk of the property. The design drawings for a new build or a major renovation are free — you will know what you are getting, and what it costs, before you commit to anything.
